Sandra Lynne

Artist... designer... information specialist... researcher... computer consultant... web designer... linguist... Sandra is all of these. She has degrees in Judaic Studies and information science. Her studies include subjects relevant to both her work as an information manager and a designer, for example copyright law and computer skills. She has provided research services for national news personalities and international advertising agencies. She has freelanced as a computer consultant and web design consultant. She brings it all together here in her online business venture. Even her language studies (Hebrew, French, Italian and German) enable her to communicate easily with international clientele.

Sandra's creative endeavors began at an early age when her grandmothers and her mother taught her to knit, crochet and sew. While studying at Tel Aviv University, a walk through the city brought her to a shop with beautiful Judaic needlepoint tapestries in the window so she taught herself the art of needlepoint. The walls of her home are covered with needlepoint renditions of the kotel, Chagall reproductions and other Jewish subjects. (Being an accomplished photographer as well, the rest of her wall space contains some of her incredible photos of Israel.) Sandra has since taught herself machine knitting (she actually knit up new upholstery for her sofa!), weaving, tatting, Japanese bunka, chandling and soapmaking. She is also an experienced aromatherapist and refers to herself as the "mad scientist" when she is concocting one of her lotions or perfumes. Next on her long list of "must learn" is the art of making tabletop fountains.

Designing began after college when she had more time to knit again. Coats and jackets are her specialties and I've witnessed first-hand how people stop her to admire her creations as she walks down the street in her native New York City. Her designs have attracted the attention of Wall Streeters and trendy teens alike.

Her "yarn closet" contains a wild assortment of colors and textures waiting for "the right project". She collects yarns in the same way she collects beads because "you can never have too many and you may never come across this one again." Beadwork also led to a collection of rocks, minerals and crystals in addition to the polished pieces she uses in her work. (A musician, she also collects flutes, recorders, ocarinas and music boxes from around the world.)

The journey into beadwork began only a few years ago. Though she still considers herself a student in terms of learning techniques, she quickly discovered a wonderful new medium for her own designs and is often consulted on the design of Judaic patterns. She has knit and crocheted a number of Judaic pieces but is excited about the potential beadwork offers her for expressing her strong emotional ties to her Jewish heritage. Being especially drawn to the Austrian Swarovski lead crystals, it didn't surprise her at all to discover that, historically, lead crystal was often referred to as "Jewish glass." Though the pieces she sells tend more toward the simple and classic, the pieces she envisions in her head are wildly and wonderfully creative and the passion with which she speaks of them is contagious. I always look forward to seeing her new designs and am thrilled to own a number of them.
